We are in Maine! Our little house is amazing… on a little lake/pond with the ocean on the other side.
We had a busy last two weeks and this next week will probably be just as busy. The last week before we left was super busy- we were packing like crazy and squeezing in as many events as we could (30th birthday parties, wine festival, making freezer meals for a pregnant friend, Sunday brunch, visiting our favorite restaurants.) We had friends fly in on Wednesday to help us with the rest of the packing and to drive back to Maine.
Our drive went really smooth- we had to drive our Budget rental truck (which earned the nickname Fussbudget by the ladies, and Fat Man by the men). We didn’t hit any traffic until we got to Maine (go figure)… oh and when the ladies took a wrong turn in DC and ended up getting stuck behind two different accidents. Thank goodness for Walkie-talkies- we were able to tell them men not to follow us on our wrong turn- they ended up getting to the restaurant way before us (we were meeting a friend for dinner) and already had a beer when we got there.
We even had fun handles to go with out walkies- I was Cupcake, Eliza was Dandelion, Ethan was Tater and MW was Road Runner (or sometimes Boo Boo)… the two pups were Hush Puppy and Hot Dog. They definitely made the ride more fun! We stopped in DE for the first night… then when we got to Maine Sunday we threw almost everything in the garage. So today, MW is back to work (he works from home now) and I am spending the next week unpacking (the house is fully furnished so it’s a matter of deciding what we want out of our stuff and how to incorporate ourselves into what is already here.) Then next Wednesday we are back to NC for MW’s graduation.
Leaving wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be… I don’t think it has quite set in yet- especially since I will be back again next week… when I leave then it probably will hit me- right now it just feels like we are home and on vacation. (And I am freezing… is it wrong I want to start a fire on the 1st of May?) The hardest part for me was leaving Becky… I cried saying bye to her… and then I cried more in the car driving away from her. I just need to convince them they want to live closer!
The dogs are so happy… they run free and are exhausted at night- it’s great. Now it’s off to unpack!
